The Lighthouse (2019) is the most recent film by popular filmmaker Robert Eggers, director of the acclaimed film The Witch (2015) and a young promise of the horror genre.

Starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, The Lighthouse tells the story of two lighthouse keepers who gradually lose their sanity due to the isolation of the old lighthouse where they work.

Filmed in black and white and in an aspect ratio of 1.19:1, the film has been acclaimed by the specialized critic for its production design and technical excellence, strongly inspired by the literary work of Edgar Allan Poe and German expressionist cinema. To make the film, the cast and crew filmed under extreme weather conditions such as low temperatures and inclement rains, resulting in a beautiful and deeply honest film.

The Lighthouse won the International Federation of Film Critics award at the Cannes Film Festival 2019 and is counted among the best films made in 2019.
