The year 2019 was a very important year for the film industry. In addition to concluding the stories of Marvel Studios and Star Wars, two of the most important film sagas in the industry, the year brought us films that changed the ways of making movies and others that broke the highest box office records.
Although the earnings of the films do not ensure their technical or narrative quality, it does speak of the great reception they had from moviegoers and the general public alike, establishing a clear list of the most popular and influential titles of the year. 5. Captain Marvel (Anna Boden y Ryan Fleck, 2019)
Starring Brie Larson, the story of Captain Marvel is set in the 90s and introduces us to Carol Danvers, the Captain Marvel, an intergalactic warrior who will arrive on Earth in search of the Skrulls, a race of extraterrestrial villains with the ability to change their shapes.
Captain Marvel is the twenty-first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the last before the grand finale of the Infinity Saga. The film grossed more than $ 1.128 million worldwide and became the first superhero film directed by women to exceed one billion dollars.

4. Spider-Man: Far From Home (Jon Watts, 2019)
Spider-Man: Far From Home was directed by Jon Watts, also director of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), starring Tom Holland in the role of Peter Parker / Spider-Man, who travels to Europe with his classmates to face the deceptive villain Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Far From Home was the culmination of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and raised more than $ 1.131 million worldwide, far exceeding its predecessor Homecoming and any other movie of the arachnid hero.

3. Frozen 2 (Chris Buck y Jennifer Lee, 2019)
Frozen 2 is the sequel to one of the most successful Disney movies. It tells the story of Queen Elsa and her sister, Anna, who embark on a new adventure deep into a dark enchanted forest to discover the ancient mysteries of her kingdom and the origin of her magic.
Frozen 2 raised more than $ 1,405 million worldwide, surpassing its predecessor and obtaining various reviews. Despite its great commercial success, the film did not get the nomination for Best Animated Film at the Oscars 2020, which unexpectedly got smaller projects like Klaus (2019).

2. The Lion King (Jon Favreau, 2019)
The Lion King is a remake of the Disney classic of the same title, originally released in 1994. This new version was directed by Jon Favreau, one of the masterminds behind the successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, and features the voices of Donald Glover, Beyoncé and James Earl Jones, among many others.
With more than $1,656 million at the worldwide box office, The Lion King became Disney‘s most successful remake and the highest grossing animated film in history.

1. Avengers: Endgame (Anthony y Joe Russo, 2019)
The Marvel Studios superhero epic concludes with Avengers: Endgame, the most popular superhero movie in history and the final entry of a story that spans though 22 interconnected titles, considered one of the most important cinematic events of our time.
Avengers: Endgame raised over $ 2,797 million worldwide, surpassing $ 2,789 million raised by Avatar (James Cameron, 2009) and becoming the highest grossing movie in history.
