TV shows and movies to watch during Easter Week

If you've decided not to go on a trip this Easter Week, enjoy this opportunity to stay at home and watch movies about the life and works of Jesus Christ.

With Easter already here, many Christians take this time to pay homage and remember their Lord, Jesus Christ. If you want to do the same, these are our recommendations:

Messiah – 2020 TV show

Messiah is a TV show that depicts the modern world reaction to the arrival of a man who appears in the Middle East who claims to be the Messiah, while preaching and attracting many followers. This show challenges our stance towards Christ and makes us reflect on how we would react if Jesus were to come to Earth today. Would you follow him or feel that he is a foe?

This story unfolds through different viewpoints: a CIA agent, the media, a Latin preacher and some Israeli officials, among others.

Some fans said:

“I loved the show, I simply adored it. It warmed my heart completely, I just finished the second season!! Jonathan Roumie did an incredible job, Dallas Jenkins is a genius!! The whole cast is! It’s the most biblical thing I’ve seen in a series or movie!”

The Last Temptation of Christ – 1988 Film

This movie is a classic directed by one of the most prominent directors of recent times, Martin Scorsese. The film narrates the life of Jesus Christ and focuses on the feelings, doubts, and internal conflicts that He may have experienced in the most difficult moments of his endeavor.

It is based on the homonymous novel by Nikos Kazantzakis from 1955. Among its protagonists we may find great actors such as Willem Dafoe and David Bowie.

Willem Dafoe as Jesus

This was one of the few religious movies that was nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Director at the 1989 edition.

However, as it was utterly controversial, it was banned in several countries including Mexico, Argentina, Turkey, the Philippines, and Chile.

The Passion of the Christ – 2004 Film

Mel Gibson directed this masterpiece which depicts the last twelve hours of Jesus’s life before being crucified after Judas betrayed him.

Gibson took this endeavor to another level by deciding not to film the movie in English, but in the accurate languages of the time: Hebrew, Aramaic, and Latin.

These are just a few of the movies you can watch during Easter to connect with the life of Jesus. Whether in solitude or surrounded by loved ones, we hope you find in each story a message of hope, renewal, and Faith. Happy Easter, MyFamilier!
