It’s Leonardo DiCaprio’s birthday and, in MFC, we give you a list with his top movies so that you can celebrate as well. At the end of this article you can find more about his latest feature. 😉

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most famous Hollywood actors, and this November 11th he turns 49. He is an actor, producer and climate change activist (DiCaprio thinks that global warming “is the most urgent threat facing our entire species”). He has received numerous awards, including an Oscar for Best Actor and a BAFTA Award for Best Actor for The Revenant. To celebrate his birthday, we bring you the best films of his career.

titanic

In 1997, director James Cameron chose him for the lead role of Titanic, which gave him worldwide fame since it’s one of the highest-grossing movies in film history and had several Oscar nominations. The story takes place in 1912, on the greatest transatlantic cruise in history. Love arises between Rose (Kate Winslet), a first-class young woman, and Jack (DiCaprio), a young tourist-class bohemian artist. Rose, from a wealthy family that has fallen into a bad debt, is engaged to Cal (Billy Zane), an obnoxious millionaire who, along with Rose’s mother (Francis Fisher), puts all kinds of obstacles in their relationship. Meanwhile, the gigantic and luxurious Titanic approaches its imminent end.

The Wolf of Wall Street

This movie, directed by Martin Scorsese, is a mix of biographical black comedy and crime based on the memoirs of Jordan Belfort, starring Margot Robbie, Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey. Leo plays the role of Belfort, a middle-class young man whose life changes completely when he enters the stock market world of Wall Street and immerses himself in the excesses that come with it. He goes from being a married man with morals to a businessman corrupted by the power of money. The film shows his downfall as a successful stockbroker, involving crime, corruption, and the federal government.

The Revenant

DiCaprio plays an explorer in The Revenant, a film produced and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. The remake of Man in the Wilderness (1971) portrays the life of Hugh Glass, a man who participates in a fur trading expedition in the 1820s. On this expedition he fights to survive, after being attacked by a bear and left for dead by the members of his own hunting team.

The Revenant was nominated for 12 categories in the 88th Academy Awards. Iñárritu won Best Director and DiCaprio finally got his award for Best Actor.

Killers of the Flower Moon

Killers of the Flower Moon is the sixth time that DiCaprio and Scorsese work together, this time alongside Robert De Niro. The film is a dramatic thriller, based on the book of the same name by David Grann, which already sounds like one of the best films of the year.

The story is set in the 1920s in northeastern Oklahoma and follows the murder of several members of the Osage Nation, a tribe rooted in an area rich in oil settlements.

This film has already been well received by the public and is a promising candidate for the Oscars.
