Hear those engines roar: “Fast & Furious” saga released its ninth movie on theaters and promises action everywhere

It’s been 20 years since the Fast & Furious saga premiered its first movie in 2001, back when nobody foresaw that a story about illegal street racing, incredible cars, espionage and rebel police officers would become the success it is today. Not even the very Vin Diesel saw it coming, who participated in all the movies of the franchise except for 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) for fear of staining the original legacy.

After a 1-year delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Universal Pictures decided to postpone the movie premiere in order to have theater ticket sales running again and, thus, making F9 the first big-budget action movie to be shown exclusively on the big screen. Justin Lin, director of Star Trek Beyond (2016) and five other films of the franchise, was in charge of overseeing this new installment as well.

On this occasion, the new theme of the story is marked by the inclusion of old and new faces. On the one hand, we have John Cena, famous former body builder who personifies Toretto’s brother, a completely new character. On the other hand, actor Sung Kang, who played Han in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), makes a new appearance. And, naturally, we enjoy performances by the well-known Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster and Charlize Theron.

With very few exceptions, almost the same cast stuck throughout the saga. Let’s not forget that the story began with a conflict between a police officer played by Paul Walker (2001-2015) investigating auto parts thieves and an Asian gang. Soon after, almost unnoticeably, the characters evolved and became agents who were hired by high society individuals to fight hackers and terrorists. But the real question is… what will take place in Fast & Furious 9?

The first minutes of the feature film state, once again, that family will play a key role in the development of events. Through flashbacks, the story unfolds in depth Dominic Toretto’s complicated teenage life and his relationship with his younger brother, Jakob. Additionally, if you’re wondering whether the film will be filled with action or not, the answer is definitely yes! This time, we will see car chases in which the protagonists will handle giant magnets to avoid being caught during a pursuit that promises to be one of the most spectacular ones in the history of cinema, with impossible maneuvers and high-quality VFX that help construct the realism of the scene. The surprise number? Outer space travels with the characteristic style the franchise has us all used to.

F9 premiered in Latin America on June 24th, while in other countries, such as the United States, New Zealand and Philippines, it was released the following day. The franchise already has announced two more movies that will be presented in two individual installments and that will mark the end of the saga, same as with Harry Potter and The Hunger Games.

Until then, let’s enjoy this new movie that promises loads and loads of action. Don’t forget to leave us a comment with your favorite scene!
