Since its debut in 1995, Bad Boys has become one of the most recognizable action movies of the 90s and a classic of the buddy cop subgenre. After 17 years of the sequel’s premiere, Bad Boys II (Michael Bay, 2003), the explosive team gets back to action for one more adventure.

Bad Boys for Life (2020) is directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, and starred by well-known actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. In this new adventure, the duo must discover who is behind a series of international murders and how these relate to Mike‘s past.

Also marketed as Bad Boys III, this is the first film in the saga that wasn’t directed by Michael Bay. Although the new directors bring a different style, the quest to replicate the overwhelming action-blast sequences that characterize Bay‘s films is evident.

As in the previous films, the best thing about this one is the interaction between actors, who bring back the fun and exciting dynamics that have made the Bad Boys saga an action cinema classic. This time we are told a story that personally affects the protagonists, which allows us to know a little more about their pasts and personalities.

Despite being better written than the first two, Bad Boys for Life is still one more action movie in the long collection of titles in the genre. Due to the great box office success that this third installment turned out to be, the fourth film in the saga is already in production. Hopefully it won’t take another 17 years to be made.
