The long-awaited adaptation of the iconic Argentine graphic novel The Eternaut has been available on streaming since April 30, 2025. Directed by Bruno Stagnaro and starring Ricardo Darín, the six-episode series has captured the attention of both critics and viewers, becoming a cultural phenomenon in Argentina and beyond.

Synopsis

Set in Buenos Aires, the story begins with a mysterious, deadly snowfall that wipes out much of the population. Juan Salvo, played by Ricardo Darín, joins a group of survivors as they struggle to resist an alien invasion using the storm as its first strike. The series emphasizes solidarity and collective resistance in the face of adversity, staying true to the spirit of the original work by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López.

Cast

The cast is led by Ricardo Darín as Juan Salvo. He is joined by acclaimed actors such as Carla Peterson, César Troncoso, Andrea Pietra, Marcelo Subiotto, Claudio Martínez Bel, Orianna Cárdenas, Mora Fisz, and Ariel Staltari. Bruno Stagnaro directed and co-wrote the series, with contributions from Ariel Staltari. 

Production Team

Netflix produced the series in collaboration with K&S Films. Filming took place from May to December 2023 in over 35 real locations across Buenos Aires, enhanced with virtual production technology to recreate the post-apocalyptic landscapes. 

Release Date

The Eternaut premiered globally on streaming platforms on April 30, 2025. The first season includes six episodes, all currently available to watch.

The series has received strong reviews, with a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 72 out of 100 on Metacritic. Renowned video game creator Hideo Kojima praised the show after watching the first few episodes, calling it “really good.
