Civil War: curiosities about the action movie of the moment

Imagine a world where the United States enters a Civil War and the country is practically converted into a battlefield. That is what “Civil War” proposes, a great action movie by the hands of A24 and Alex Garland. We, at MFC, share with you some curiosities about this release.

In “Civil War,” the United States has collapsed, but not because of aliens (“The Day the Earth Stood Still”), zombies (“World War Z” or “I Am Legend”), or robots (“I, Robot”). This time, the country has fallen on its own: American democracy has imploded and the legal and political system has led to an armed confrontation between citizens. In this civil war, Texas and California line up to confront the East Coast.

My Family Cinema brings you this list of Civil War curiosities you cannot miss. Mind you, be careful because there might be some spoilers.

1- IT MAY HAVE BEEN ALEX GARLAND’S LAST FILM

In an interview conducted in March of this year, Alex Garland, director of the film Civil War, confessed that he intended to, after the release, take a long break from directing and focus solely on scriptwriting. More details here.

2- THE PROTAGONISTS WERE PREPARED AS PHOTOJOURNALISTS

As soon as they accepted the position as protagonists, both Kirsten Dunst and Cailee Spaeny began taking photography classes to understand how to use the camera in contexts of war or social conflicts.

3- BASED ON REAL FACTS

Although it is a film that exhibits a dystopian situation, the film Civil War presents facts based on reality. Dunst’s character is called “Lee Miller,” after the famous American photojournalist of World War II, who became famous for visiting Normandy and Germany, among other places, photographing women of all nationalities and the effects war had in their lives.

4- THE PHOTO OF THE FINAL SCENE WAS REAL

Cailee Spaeny actually took the photo for the final scene and they used it in the movie. “The ending sequence was really fun because I composed the shots. I chose what shots I wanted to take” Spaeny told Entertainment Weekly. Since she didn’t have a speed of film that was fast enough in that low light, her photos came out a bit blurry. So, she had a really fun round with the amazing camera operator and they went around and grabbed those actual shots she had chosen.
