After two years of waiting, and with a huge triumph in the streaming world, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is ready to begin its Fourth Phase with its second female-lead movie, Black Widow (2021). It premiered on July 9th through Disney+ and in cinemas all around the world.

Black Widow was directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, who will also produce Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) next year.

Scarlett Johansson returns to the big screen in the role of Natasha Romanoff after Avengers: Endgame (2019) with Florence Pugh, famous for her role in Little Women (2019), portraying Yelena Belova. Together they will try to untangle the past of our favorite superspy.

The film takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018). The life that Natasha left behind resurfaces, the ghosts she thought were forgotten return and, together with her sister, she will have to face the fact that she is a true Black Widow. In the meantime, Red Guardian (David Harbour), the Russian equivalent of Captain America, will try to regain his glory, but Taskmaster has the same goal.

It’s important to highlight that the movie has two different acts: The first one emphasizes on espionage, it focuses on schemes and betrayals, like child abduction, human testing and forced sterilization. The second act focuses on the action, which clearly shows some girl power in all its fights and still saves some humor thanks to the characters of Yelene and Red Guardian.

An element that we definitely have to mention is the soundtrack. Like any good spy movie, there are a few songs that get stuck in your head, such as the cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit and the famous song American Pie.
