The King of Staten Island
MFC Reseñas
Renowned filmmaker Judd Apatow brings us the new comedy-drama film The King of Staten Island (2020), a loose adaptation of comedian Pete Davidson’s life and his relationship with depression, family and personal growth.
The film features performances by Davidson, Marisa Tomei, Bill Burr and Steve Buscemi, among others, and tells the story of Scott, a 24-year-old wandering around Staten Islander in search of a purpose, as he struggles to embrace the new romantic relationship between his mother and a firefighter, a job his father also performed that caused him his life.

The King of Staten Island is a semi-biographical film about Davidson‘s development on Staten Island and his family relationships, which were greatly affected by his depression and his lack of connection to the world. Pete Davison‘s performance is fresh and effective, elevating his acting abilities far beyond his popular stand-up routines.
Although Judd Apatow is best known for his comedy films, the director was able to demonstrate once again that he is capable of creating dramas of great narrative value without neglecting his humor. The script, co-written by Apatow, Davidson and comedian Dave Sirus, dares to explore the emotions of its characters through their behavior, resulting in an innovative and subtle cinema.
We look forward to seeing more from Davidson who, with The King of Staten Island, has demonstrated acting abilities that he should continue to cultivate.
