El faro (2019), también conocida como The Lighthouse, es la película más reciente del aclamado cineasta Robert Eggers, director de la exitosa película La bruja (The Witch, 2015) y joven promesa del cine de terror.
Protagonizada por Robert Pattinson y Willem Dafoe, El faro narra la historia de dos fareros que, aislados en el viejo faro en el que trabajan, van perdiendo la cordura poco a poco.
Filmada en blanco y negro, y en una relación de aspecto de 1.19:1, la película ha sido aclamada por la crítica especializada por su diseño de producción y grandeza técnica, inspirada fuertemente en el trabajo literario de Edgar Allan Poe y el cine expresionista alemán. Para realizar la película, el elenco y el equipo filmaron bajo condiciones climáticas extremas como bajas temperaturas y lluvias inclementes, obteniendo como resultado una película hermosa y profundamente honesta.
El faro obtuvo el premio de la Federación Internacional de la Prensa Cinematográfica en el Festival de Cine de Cannes 2019 y es contada entre las mejores películas realizadas en 2019.
