Halloweek on MFC: Get in the mood with a spook-tacular playlist
Halloween is just a week away and excitement can be felt in the air. While we wait for one of the most anticipated celebrations, My Family Cinema chose seven movies of seven different horror subgenres to get ready for the scariest day of the year for the following seven days.

Genre: Psychological.
Plot: When elderly Edana disappears unexpectedly, her daughter Kay and granddaughter Sam travel to the remote family house to try and find her. After she returns, just as mysteriously as she’s vanished, the three women will soon find out that they are being harassed by a type of dementia that is slowly consuming their family.
Director: Natalie Erika James. Cast: Robyn Nevin, Emily Mortimer, Bella Heathcote.
Genre: Horror.
Plot: In the beautiful city of Seattle, Madison is trying to live her best life. However, she soon becomes paralyzed by fear from shocking visions of horrifying murders. The situation only gets worse when she finds out that those visions are, in fact, terrifying realities.
Director: James Wan. Cast: Annabelle Wallis, Maddie Hasson, George Young.
Genre: Paranormal.
Plot: After two year of trying to conceive without success, Lucy and Adrian turn to Dr. Hindle, who has developed his own secret method of fertility. When the couple finally learn they are expecting, everything goes from bad to worse: Lucy becomes skeptical of her surroundings as she suspects that evil things are happening inside her body without her consent.
Director: John Lee. Cast: Ilana Glazer, Justin Theroux, Pierce Brosnan.
Genre: Sci-Fi.
Plot: Sarah is a runaway teenager in desperate need to control her recurring nightmares. She then signs up for a mysterious sleep study in exchange for money, only to discover that an entirely new realm of terror is waiting for her.
Director: Anthony Scott Burns. Cast: Julia Sarah Stone, Landon Liboiron, Carlee Ryski.
Genre: Thriller.
Plot: When a family decides to spend their holidays chilling on an isolated tropical island, the location turns out to be the complete opposite from relaxing. It soon seems evident that the secluded beach is somehow causing them to age at a relentless pace…
Director: M. Night Shyamalan. Cast: Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell.
Genre: Gore.
Plot: Based on the Saw franchise, this movie follows Detective Ezekiel Banks and his rookie partner William Schenk on a murder case that, for some reason, resembles the dreadful past of the city. As the investigation unfolds, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Director: Darren Lynn Bousman. Cast: Chris Rock, Morgan Freeman, Max Minghella.
Genre: Slasher.
Plot: Laurie believes she finally killed her lifelong tormentor after leaving him caged and burning in her basement. However, Michael manages to free himself and so his ritual bloodbath resumes. Now, with the help of a group of other survivors, Laurie decides to take the matter in her own hands once and for all.
Director: David Gordon Green. Cast: Robert Longstreet, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kyle Richards.
Bonus track − I Know What You Did Last Summer (2021)
If movies are definitely not your thing, MFC’s got your back. Last October 15th, Amazon presented us with I Know What You Did Last Summer, a teen series based on the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan. The 8-episode TV show revolves around a group of teenage kids who have a fatal accident on their graduation night. An exact year later, they are stalked by a mysterious killer… If you’ve never even heard about the 1997 original movie, well, now is your chance to get to know what happens, though you will have to wait until after Halloween for that. But, hey, that’s some way to keep the spirit alive longer, don’t you think?
